Windham electric fireplace from Dimplex redefines the concept of the modern media console
August 2, 2010
Cambridge, Ontario (August 2, 2010) – The new Windham electric fireplace from Dimplex takes aim at the double dilemma of modern living: where do I put my new flat-screen TV and where’s the fireplace? Advances in technology have rendered LCD and plasma receivers the only viable TV choices, yet they require the addition of a wall mount system or stand for comfortable and safe viewing. They also need lots of storage in close proximity for electronic equipment and media. Changes in building patterns mean that the principal rooms of many residences have no fireplace. The Windham media console fireplace provides a solution to these problems that is as attractive as it is practical.
From a practical point of view, the Windham has all the bases covered, incorporating a TV stand with ideal viewing height, plenty of storage for electronics and media, and a safe, clean, green electric fireplace.
From a visual perspective, the Windham is a tour de force of modern furniture design. A robust smoked-glass plate, supported by sleek polished aluminum cylinders is the ideal futuristic support for the modern flat-screen TV. The main console, with its contemporary bow-front design boasts two large storage compartments, each conveniently outfitted with a shelf and smoked glass door. The architecture of the unit, comprising the firebox, storage compartments and raised TV platform, impart a presence to this console that makes it a compelling focal point, whether or not the TV or fireplace are turned on.
Colin Stewart, Design Director at Dimplex, says “We developed this media console to be a very practical solution to wide-screen TV placement and storage, as well as a sophisticated “wow” factor to the room.”
Prospective purchasers of the new Windham media console will have a very pleasant choice to make: which of the two available wide screen fireplaces to choose? Both feature the Dimplex patented life-like flame effect but one incorporates realistic looking logs and a flickering ember bed for a traditional look while the other firebox uses a luminous bed of crushed glass to provide a striking, refreshing alternative to tradition. The layers of special glass pieces are illuminated from below and refract and reflect the light, resulting in a warm glow that is both contemporary and captivating.
While different in appearance, both fireplaces can take the chill off a room with their powerful fan-forced electric heaters. And both can be used with or without heat so owners can enjoy the ambiance of a soothing fire even it’s warm and they don’t wish to add additional heat to the room. As well, both can control room temperature automatically with their adjustable thermostats and are perfectly safe to use in close proximity with flat-screen monitors.
The safe, clean electric operation means the Windham media console is easy on the environment and has a small carbon footprint. Both versions operate on any standard 120V household outlet. No venting or other complicated installation is needed. Just place the Windham media console electric fireplace where you would like and plug it in. Operation is very economical; average operating costs are less than one cent per hour with the flame operating without heat and four cents per hour with the heater operating.
