New contemporary electric firebox from Dimplex reveals the bold look of the future

March 11, 2010

Cambridge, Ontario — Fireboxes with a dramatic horizontal aspect ratio have long been popular in Europe and among the particularly design conscious in North America. Even so, owning one has mainly been the privilege of those who could afford a custom installation. Now, Dimplex is making the contemporary linear firebox style accessible to consumers and homebuilders alike with the introduction of its 50'' wide linear electric firebox.

No design features have been sacrificed in bringing this extraordinary firebox to a broader market. The realistic flame pattern stretches across almost the entire width of the firebox giving it a mesmerizing appeal. And, those flames leap from a modern flame bed that gently pulsates and imparts a warm, inviting glow to the room. The effect is achieved by a flame bed made from glass pieces that are silvered on one side. Beams from the light source refract and reflect through this semi-translucent media creating an effect that is as alluring as it is contemporary.

The linear firebox provides flexible installation options with four primary modes to choose from; the unit can be mounted on the wall, partially recessed into a conventional stud wall, flush mounted by recessing it into a 2x8 stud wall or installed as part of a Dimplex mantel package. Electrical connection to a standard 120V household circuit is accomplished through hard wiring or with a cord and plug. The linear firebox can be installed practically anywhere because there is no complicated and expensive piping or venting required. It’s an ideal candidate for creating a captivating feature wall in apartments and condominiums.

Dimplex has made plenty of control options available to the user as well. The firebox can be operated manually with the controls built into the firebox, while an optional hand-held remote control and a wall-mount remote control are available to add convenience. The unit is equipped with a powerful fan-forced heater that can be set to high or low position to suit conditions, or the flame can be enjoyed even in warm weather with the heater switched off.

Martyn Champ, President of Glen Dimplex Americas says, “This new linear fireplace is right in tune with the wave of interest in contemporary designs that is starting to grow with increasing intensity on this side of the Atlantic. Europeans have embraced this low, wide profile for some time. Now, it seems we’re seeing the light over here as well.”

The benefits of this striking new fireplace do not end with its engaging style. Ease of use combined with clean, safe operation guarantee continued satisfaction. Efficiency is a top priority with the linear firebox as well; operating costs are estimated to be two cents per hour with the flame, and six cents per hour when the heater is used with the thermostat cycling at 50 percent.
